Mom requires help walking. She feels most secure when I walk behind her with my arms around her waist as she holds my hands at the front of her midsection. This ensures I can catch her if she stumbles and starts to fall. If she does fall, I can immediately pull her upright.
Observing my past, seeing now, and looking toward my future, I’m certain Jesus has walked with me and held my hands to give me security. I’ve stumbled many times, but Jesus has kept me standing. At times, I’ve fallen due to resisting his steady hand. Even then, He lifted me upright. Thank God for Jesus when I’ve made wrong choices.
I’ve made choices for my children that I now see as independent of God’s leadership. I encouraged private Christian Colleges to avoid secular schools of higher education. Discovering many untrue doctrines and practices is now ingrained in all colleges after the choices were made. Loosening my dress code with our daughters about swimwear was a mistake that has now been corrected as they’ve entered adulthood, accredited to Jesus alone.
Missing communication opportunities in our children’s adulthood still haunts me. Hinde’s site now reveals I should have developed a stronger friendship with my adult children. Maybe they desired me to wrap my arms around them so they could grab my hands for security. Even when my teens and adult children resisted my guidance, I could’ve offered counsel in a kind and caring manner.
Mom needs me, my children need me, and I need Jesus. His strong arms and steady hands are my source of security. The older I get, the more I know that I can’t even walk this world with a Christian witness without Jesus holding my hands. I need Him every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every month, and every year. I’m thankful to know and need Him.
May I ask, do you know Jesus as your Savior, friend, and guide? Do you walk behind your loved ones like Jesus walks with you? All humans need Jesus, but we must realize this need and cry out to Him to save our sinful souls. We walk one of two roads, the broad or the narrow. There are two dead ends. Which road are you walking, and where will your journey end?
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in there at: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Mathew 7:13-14
