Our son Asa bought the property, poured a concrete slab, insured the pole barn frame for installation, and the list continued. It took two years of perseverance to realize his dream Barndominium bachelor pad. After much preparation and execution, Asa’s home is complete. But this home is temporary, as are all earthly houses. We must persevere to achieve an earthly home, but our heavenly home is secured when we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. God’s word provides examples of people in need who persevered toward Jesus.
Mary and Martha sent for Jesus. Their brother Lazarus had died, and they knew Jesus could raise him from the dead. Yet Jesus did not come. Day one passed. Then, days two, three, and four. His body now stank from the decaying process. On day four, Jesus arrived. Both Mary and Martha were tearful and filled with questions about His delay. Jesus wept and reacted to their continual cries. He called Lazarus forth from the dead, and many Jews believed. Perhaps when we face death and heartache, others see Jesus responding to our cries during our time of need.
Fatigued from twelve years of sickness, a woman with a blood issue persistently crawled through the congested crowd to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. One touch made her whole, and she felt healing power flow through her body. Jesus knew, too, and called for her public acknowledgment. Our public proclamation of Jesus’s touch points others to Him.
Jesus preached with a crowd so dense it seemed impossible to meet Him. Determined to get their bedridden friend to Jesus, several men raised the roof and lowered their colleague to the healer. Let’s labor and pray for our ailing friends to experience healing.
Ladies, let’s persevere to build our homes while interceding for others. Perhaps we know people dead in trespasses and sin who need a Savior. Pray diligently for Jesus to quicken their soul and make them alive in Him. Are you feeling tired of life’s demands? Continually crawl to the feet of Jesus. One touch will revive. Be a devoted friend willing to take drastic measures to ensure others get to Jesus. Persevere.
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
