Patriots of Freedom

As defined in Webster’s Dictionary, a patriot loves and supports his or her country. That meaning has lasted since this word’s introduction to English in the 16th century. American writers of the 18th century readily used the word to describe the colonists who stood against British control. The Patriots won the War of Independence and wrote the Declaration. The term patriot still holds a place of honor in English given to men and women who serve in our armed forces and are willing to defend our rights and freedoms. Not all Americans will serve as soldiers in the armed forces, but we’re still considered patriots if we have a strong love for our country.

Those who have fought battles to ensure our freedoms did so for each American citizen. Loving our country involves loving individuals and desiring what is best for them. So perhaps believers, patriots, have a two-fold reason to take a stand.

Our Biblical lifestyles and beliefs are being attacked, so we must stand on the truth of God’s Word. Loving Jesus means obeying his command to go into all the world and teach the gospel while speaking truth in love. I challenge you to use your freedom of speech and religion to spread the best news known to mankind. People will indeed be free when they experience the saving grace of Jesus Christ and escape the control of Satan’s grip. All believers are soldiers of the cross whose desire should be enlisted soldiers in the fight of faith to see others brought to spiritual freedom.

Are you serving our country as a Christian Patriot amid difficult times?

Thou, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 2:1-3

Thank you for this tribute to patriots, those then and now who sacrificed for our freedom. I pray we always honor them and not let their efforts be in vain.
