That Annoying Drip

Leaky Faucet

My kitchen faucet dripped for months, and the noise annoyed me. We purchased a faucet that lingered in the box for another month. On June 16th, my husband replaced the faucet, which took little time and minimal effort. My ears and mind do not miss the drip.

Ladies, did you know our words can be annoying, like the drip of a faucet? When we continually rehash a negative situation, especially toward our husbands, we may annoy them. I know, I’ve been guilty.

We women can remember that our husbands forgot our anniversary twenty years ago. We remember when he failed to take out the trash last week, or he didn’t help with the children when we were trying to cook. We remember being stressed with all our responsibilities as he leisurely lay on the couch mindlessly managing the remote. The list goes on and on.

If we continually verbalize our disappointments, we may damage our marital relationship. You’d think women my age would be well past the capability to annoy, but I suppose my flesh likes to poke at the past. What I find helps me most is taking my thoughts captive and bringing them under the obedience of Christ as instructed in 2 Corinthians 10:4 through 6. I can then obey Philippians 4:8.

When Satan says, “Your husband doesn’t care how you feel,” he’s out to instigate discord. Grab that thought and replace it with proper thinking, such as, My husband loves me, but he is preoccupied. Once our moods are managed, we can express our needs without nagging.

I’m not too fond of the faucet dripping, and I’ve learned my husband doesn’t like the sound of my negative words.

A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. Proverbs 27:15 (Ouch)

You’ve shared an important lesson, Lisa. Thank you for this reminder to take captive those negative words before they escape our mouths–and to look for the positive and express thanksgiving for our blessings.

One of my downfalls is getting caught up listening to Satan’s lies and imagining things. Then out comes the negative words.
