Is Your Name Written There?

My grandson Noah was named by a nurse who worked at the hospital. When the adoption was finalized, Courtney and Kyle gave his full name as follows: Noah Michael Romine.  Noah means rest and peace, which doesn’t always seem fitting because my grandson is loud and active. I believe he will someday surrender to Jesus, and his soul will find rest and peace, even if he continues to be a bit rowdy.

We are each given a name at birth. Once reported to our state, we receive a birth certificate with our name written as proof that we were born. This can be used as a legal document throughout our lives to prove this fact.

In John chapter three, Jesus spoke with Nicodemus about birth. This prestigious religious leader came to Jesus by night and referred to him as Rabbi, recognizing He must be a teacher from God due to his many miracles. Jesus immediately speaks the core gospel message. “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus doesn’t understand, “How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?” Jesus answers, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” In other words, our fleshly birth occurs when we are born via water birth from our mother’s womb. Our spiritual birth, or born-again birth, happens when we receive God’s Spirit. This occurs at the moment we believe on Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Once this transpires our sins are covered, we receive rest for our souls, peace that passes all understanding keeps our hearts and minds, and our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

It’s important to have our names written on our birth certificates when we are born from our mother’s womb. We need this as we live our lives on Earth. But, most importantly we need to experience the new birth and have our names recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life. This is proof of our new birth and is the only way to enter Heaven. Is your name written there?

And there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Revelation 21:27

Great analogy. And remember that sometimes the most rowdy among us become the top crusaders for Jesus. Just look at Noah’s ultimate trust and faith in God.
