There has been much discussion surrounding the Star of Bethlehem. A nova, a comet, or perhaps not a star at all, but a symbol of the light of the world are some intellectual conclusions. Let’s look at God’s word in Matthew chapter two.
Wise men came from the east to Jerusalem with one determination which was to find the King of the Jews. They had seen His star and desired to worship Him. This troubled Herod who may have felt a threat to his own Kingship. He demanded where Christ should be born and privately asked the Wise Men when the star had appeared. Herod instructed them to search diligently for the young child and report back so he could also worship.
The Wise Men departed and followed the star in the east till it came and stood over where the child King resided. This brought the Wise Men exceeding great joy. They entered the house and found Jesus with his mother Mary. Falling they worshiped, opened their treasures, and presented the Christ child with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Returning home another way, the Wise Men were wise to avoid informing King Herod of Jesus’ whereabouts.
Perhaps the star the Wise Men followed was a Nova or some other astrological phenomenon. Perhaps this star shines occasionally or has never been seen before or since, or maybe it was strategically placed by the hand of God our Creator for that period in His timeline. Regardless, His star lit the dark sky to lead the Wise Men to Worship the King. Isn’t it enough to accept Matthew’s Gospel account that the Wise Men saw and followed “the star” or “his star” to find Jesus?
Bethlehem’s bright star led the wise men to Jesus who now lights the heart of every man, woman, boy, or girl who believes. Jesus’ light shines in our dark hearts to reveal our sinful state so that we might receive Him.
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6
Love this.
Thank you sweet friend.
I love lights at Christmas, — whether they are tree lights, candlelight, firelight, or stars. I let them be a reminder of God’s presence in my life.
Candayce, I feel the same about the lights of the season.
