Near or Distant Future

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 2 Corinthians 5:7

As my friend Jessica’s photo depicts, my writing journey end is not within sight.

I believe as I walk the road toward publishing, my ever improving craft will provide encouragement to my readers and bring glory to God. I am propelled by the Holy Spirit, yet I often experience the Spirit to move me forward is as still as a windless summer day. Setbacks, dubbed rejections, come. Nevertheless, I expect my prayers of faith to be answered someday in the near or distant future.

I have dreamed of publishing for slightly more than twenty years. My busy life with three children in the home, working a full-time job and a part time children’s ministry kept me occupied. But I am now empty nesting and in pursuit of traditional publishing. While I wait, I write!

Picture books are my first genre of choice. The craft for picture books are not as easily attained as it first appears. Reading numerous books to my children through the years made it look easy. Make no mistake, meter is a learning curve of its own. Prose is somewhat more doable, yet much writing, re-writing, critiquing and editing are involved.

Devotional writings are my second genre. I have taught the Bible for years so spiritual application of God’s word is an exercised skill. However, writing devotionals propose a new challenge as I learn to use the proper format.

I believe God’s direction for my life is certain so I must continue the long walk ahead. As I walk, my Savior gives me faith because my sight is limited. I have no idea when I will publish but I am applying what I learn step by step. Each step brings me closer to an agent and a contract.

Writing friends let’s keep walking forward, by faith. Bumps, curves and ditches may leave us feeling deflated. But God will empower us, by His Spirit, while equipping us for our publishing journey. Our faithful God promises peace and well being along the way. Our expected end will be given as He wills.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11).

How encouraging. My journey has been ever evolving. It has not been linear. I think all writers’ journeys are probably unique.
