…He [Satan] was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:44
My father’s lied. He claimed he had no mistress. But my mom’s eyes soon opened. His deception and unwillingness to acknowledge his sin and turn from it brought destruction to our family. My parent’s marriage died, and our family disintegrated.
Dad destroyed his marriage and wrecked our family because he imitated Satan, the father of lies. From the beginning of time, Satan has been a subtle serpent. God told Adam and Eve it they ate the fruit, they would die. But Satan lied and said she would not surely die. If she ate the fruit her eyes would open and be like God.
Eve fell for Satan’s lies. Knowledge and wisdom sounded intriguing, so she ate the fruit. Then she shared with her husband.
Eyes now opened, they desperately tried to cover their nakedness by making themselves aprons of fig leaves. This impossible method failed. God confronted their sin; Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent.
Because of Adam’s sin, we all sin. My father sinned. I sin. When we do, we have two choices-to lie to God and others, as Satan and my father did, or confess and repent. When we’re honest with God and with others, God will forgive our sin and blot it out. Then we can make amends to those we have hurt.
WORDS OF TRUTH
