Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest. Joshua 1:9
Paper-like substance jetted from the wings of the airplane
The plane carrying me, my sixteen year old daughter, and three hundred other passengers had just reached cruising altitude when we realized something was terribly wrong. Due to technical difficulty, the captain was reducing the fuel in order to safely re-land at Amsterdam International Airport.
I was obeying God’s call but I felt fearful. Shortly after leaving Amsterdam, Holland my fear intensified. Would we re-land safely? Afraid and dismayed, I took God at his word as I quoted Joshua 1:9.
We did re-landed safely only to board the repaired airplane six hours later. We flew all night over the hot, dry, Sahara Desert, finally reaching our destination- Johannesburg, South Africa.
God commanded Joshua to cross Jordan to claim Israel’s Promised Land. Walking alongside Moses for forty years prepared Joshua for his calling, yet he may have felt fearful. God gave reassurance and clear instruction. He provided this in the form of a promise: everywhere Joshua went, God would go also.
Instead of feeling fearful, Joshua obeyed the command to go with strength and courage. He led God’s people to possess their Promised Land. We too, can obey the command to share the gospel. Not everyone can go to Johannesburg as my daughter and I did, but we can all share Jesus in our communities, and with our neighbors, family and friends. Whether we go overseas or across the street, we can feel confident, because God goes with us.
WORDS OF TRUTH
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
