Godly Exercise

For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things,…. 1 Timothy 4:8

Daily exercise is a discipline; a discipline that I may never attain to, but I do plan to keep trying, The benefits are more energy and less body aches!

Most needed in my life is the discipline to pray and read daily. This produces present and eternal benefits not to be compared with the temporal benefits of physical exercise. I am most concerned with a profitable life lived for my Savior. When I exercise daily, by reading God’s Word and praying, I have more stamina and endurance to witness of God’s saving grace through my writing and my daily living.

As we give daily attendance to God’s Word we are changed. We become doers of the word and not hearers only. For example if we study Ephesians 5 we learn to walk in love and put away sin. We learn to not fellowship with those who live in darkness but rather reprove them. We  discover finding the will of God is wise and we are to be filled with the spirit! Furthermore we learn, this is accomplished by speaking to ourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. This produces singing and makes melody in our hearts to the Lord. If we do this, we will see profitable results! When we give thanks for all things unto God the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, more thankfulness follows. Lastly, submitting ourselves to one another in the fear of God will work Godly character. God’s word tells us in this passage that exercising these biblical teachings will produce a spiritual filled believer.

We are to be an example of a believer: in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith and in purity (I Timothy 4:12b). The only way we achieve this is by giving attendance to reading, exhortation and to doctrine. We cannot live God’s Word if we do not read, understand and apply His truth. Let’s meditate on these things giving ourselves wholly. We are profitable for God when obedience to His word appears in our life.

Why take heed to our selves and continue in Biblical doctrine? Because in doing so we are changed. But more importantly we see others saved because they hear our witness and testimony of God’s power to change lives. Let’s strive to live a profitable life for God. Will you join me in the pursuit to exercise Godliness?

WORDS OF TRUTH

If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith, and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

I Timothy 4:6-7

Two types of exercise. Both important for living a life of abundance and service here on earth. The other a necessity for the eternal life we seek.

True! That would be a good approach to this devotion. I appreciate your consistent comments.
