I Missed the Moment

And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

Luke 4:5

I was stressed and I missed the moment.

My granddaughter Anna lost her Switch game system. While feeling rushed to leave my house, we frantically looked everywhere. We looked under pillows, under the couch and under the furniture. I was frustrated and did not head to God’s promptings to stop and pray.

Anna’s meltdown added to my frustration. I called her down with firm words of discipline, which is rare for this dotting Nana. I loaded Anna and her sister Jo in the car and  proceeded to drive to meet my daughter Courtney. I felt troubled; not because of the lost switch but because of the lost moment in time when I could  have prayed.

Taking time to ask for divine assistance is possible when we have misplaced an item. We read an account of one who did so, in 2 Kings chapter 6. While a man was felling a beam his ax head fell into the water. He frantically cried out to his master because the ax was borrowed. The man of God threw a stick into the water and the iron floated! Thus the lost item was divinely found.

Like the lost ax the switch could have been found through divine means. In my frustration I failed to head the prompting of the Holy Spirit to stop and pray. I missed the moment to be a witness to my sweet grand daughter Anna. I pray God gives me more moments to instill faith and trust of Jesus in Anna’s heart. I want her to know we have an ever present God who assists in our moment of need, if we only ask.

After I returned home I could not find another misplaced item. I prayed asking the Lord to show me where it was and he did. I prayed again, asking to find Anna’s Switch. I was prompted to look under some overlooked pillows. I found it.

Satan is ever present to fill our hearts with pressures of fulfilling our worldly tasks. We get consumed with running here and there in our designated time frame. In our frantic mindset we may fail to stop and pray. I missed the moment to pray and witness and perhaps you have also. Let’s watch and pray to insure we don’t miss these moments in the future.

WORDS OF TRUTH

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

Ephesians 6:18

This devotional was right on target. I’ve found myself in the same situation many times especially since I lost my late husband. I’m sure the anxiety and trauma of the loss contributed to my forgetfulness. I’ve lost and misplaced items that I could not find. So frustrating. However I find myself asking God to show me where to find things. I’m forever amazed at finding the misplaced items – but why? He’s my God, my helper, my friend. He always comes through. So thank you Lisa for sharing this. You are such a blessing and I “know” our Lord has special things for you to help others.
      Your forever friend, Lillie

I often am convicted by sins of omission – such as when in hindsight I realize I missed an opportunity to witness for God in a daily interactions. Like me, you learn from these and are better going forward.
