Great Price

If one owns a strand of genuine pearls, a great price is paid. Because of this, I do not possess pearls.

Jesus taught a parable comparing the kingdom of heaven unto a treasure hid in a field. When a man finds the treasure, he keeps it hidden. He, for joy, goes and sells all he possesses and buys the field. The treasure is his, yet he purposes to keep it hidden until another treasure is purchased.

The merchant man seeks goodly pearls. He finds one of great price and again sells all to buy it. What’s more, who is this merchant man selling out twice to purchase a buried treasure and a goodly pearl?

Indeed, this merchant man is God who chose the seed of Abraham to produce his earthly nation. The Israelites are God’s treasured people and His covenant with Abraham remained, yet God continued to seek goodly pearls. Finding Gentiles, who needed a Savoir, He sold out again to purchase His church.

To demonstrate His purchasing power, God sacrificed His only begotten Son to save mankind from our sins. We are sinful, yet God searches each heart and offers His gift of eternal life. Pearls are valuable, but undoubtedly worthless in comparison to God’s great price paid for mankind.

Treasured Truth

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. I Corinthians 6:20
