I Wanted Pink

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Phil. 4:11

Three years ago my husband Michael stopped to pick, our then three year old granddaughter Anna, wild daffodils. As he returned to our car and handed them to her, she responded, “I wanted pink!” This still brings smiles to our faces, though she failed to see her Pa’s loving effort.

We often fail to see when God bestows blessings upon us, therefore we complain. We prefer sunshine over rain but it soon gets too hot. Choosing new clothes and home decor excite us but we become dissatisfied soon thereafter. Another car is wanted when we like the looks, comfort and convenience of a newer model. Our husbands bring home flowers but he should have brought home jewelry. Ladies, this behavior is not so sweet when modeled by grown women.  What’s more, I am guilty.

Our potential problem is we often confuse worldly gain with spiritual blessings thus causing discontentment. Conforming to the world leads us to believe we need to gain worldly goods. Striving for bigger and better houses, furnishings, décor, cars, clothes, and more are today’s norm. Additionally, many churches mislead us by teaching the prosperity gospel, which claims possessing worldly goods is a sign of spiritual blessings. However, this is contrary to God’s Word.

When we are born again we sit with Jesus in heavenly places. We are God’s adopted children through Jesus Christ which is the good pleasure of His will. He bestows grace upon us to make us accepted in the beloved.

…We have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace (Ephesians 1:7).

God abounds toward us in all wisdom and prudence. Furthermore,

….;we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ (Ephesians 1:11 and 12).

After we heard the word of truth,  trusted and believed in the gospel of salvation, we were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise. I call that true blessings.

Our eyes see pretty things and our ears hear lofty promises of contentment with this world’s goods. We are so easily deceived by the world’s propaganda. Clearly, we are listening to the wrong voice. Let’s read God’s truth and find Godly contentment, the only real contentment, which is offered by Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son. Indeed, we will never be satisfied with worldly gain but rather with Godly contentment which is great gain! Sweet ladies, are you content with the blessings of God?

WORDS OF TRUTH

Perverse disputing of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

I Timothy 6:5-7
