The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: …… John 10:10
My husband, ready to leave for work, met a skunk in our living room. We had left our French doors ajar the night before thus leaving our uninvited guest a way into our home. While my husband came to wake me, he lost site of the critter. When he returned to the last place it was seen, it was nowhere in sight. Assuming the skunk had meandered into our bedrooms, the shenanigans began. We lured him with tuna and my husband stood guard. Time passed with no evidence of our unwanted guest. My husband diligently searched the bedrooms. We thought the potentially smelly little weasel might have found a place to nap. No skunk was found. It had apparently left earlier that morning when my husband came to wake me. The striped stinker was not a real threat at all! We were preoccupied with finding a non-threatening enemy.
The only threat the skunk presented was leaving behind its strong, unpleasant, and hard to get rid of scent! We do have a real enemy who is a real threat. He leaves behind heartache, pain and consequences that may linger longer than we desire. This enemy creeps into our homes when we leave our heart’s door ajar.
Undoubtedly, Satan is our adversary. He presses into our hearts and then our homes, with one goal in mind. We must be serious and diligent because he is seeking anyone which he may devour. Because of this, we must resist him and be steadfast in the faith. He works to afflict our souls, destroy our homes and steal our peace. Moreover, he will press in and do so if we submit to his schemes.
Satan is a liar. When he lies, we must know God’s word and counteract his lies with the truth. Indeed, we must stand guard. Too often we focus on things that are not real threats, such as: what others think of us, how we feel, how we look, what we wear, or how immaculate our houses are. We need to be aware of our real enemy and resist his temptations and worldly lusts. Satan is subtle. He works to destroy us one sin at a time.
Persevere, always pray and watch.
*We have a real enemy with a purpose to still, kill and destroy.
*Resist Satan and be steadfast in the faith.
*Know God’s truth to counteract Satan’s lies.
*Pray and Watch
