Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,….James 1:17
I get excited when packages from my online purchases are delivered. The thud of the boxes on the porch compels me to retrieve them. In fact, I immediately open the boxes to see the gifts I have purchased for my family and friends.
Once my gifts are unpacked I am ready to wrap them with festive paper suitable for the Christmas season. In addition, I like to add all the shiny bows to the decorative paper. One more step completes my delightful task.
Wrapped gifts belong under the tree. Modern conveniences provide clean floors with a nice tree skirt to place my gifts on. Furthermore, I find great delight as I enjoy gazing at presents as the lights from the tree shine to showcase the pretty packages. This job can be tiring but delightful!
Mary’s trip to Bethlehem must have been exhausting. Nevertheless, she traveled with her husband to the city of David in order to pay his taxes. She was….
great with child, and so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered (Luke 2:5 b and 6).
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn (Luke 2:7).
I imagine provisions were sparse in the stable where Mary gave birth to her firstborn son. The greatest gift ever given was wrapped with strips of fabric, not a soft linen gown suitable for a newborn King.
Jesus wasn’t placed in a cradle fit for a royal child. Instead, Mary laid him in a manger. I can’t imagine taking my carefully wrapped packages, which are worthless in comparison, and placing them in an animal’s trough. Nevertheless, that is where Jesus was placed that first Christmas night. Regardless of the circumstances, I am sure Mary was filled with delight over the birth of her firstborn. Absent was the conveniences of this world, but present was the sweet face of God’s only Son shining under the light of His Spirit. The best gift ever was sent to the world from God then delivered and wrapped by Mary.
WORDS OF TRUTH
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace( Isaiah 9:6).
Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15).
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning (James 1:17).
