Legacy is about the creativity, values, and wisdom that you inherit from those who came before you. We each create our legacy influencing others in our family and community.

In light of recent celebrity deaths much about legacy has been splashed across social media platforms. As we view documentaries and interviews we are left with much to contemplate. Some rise to fame leaving legacies marking many generations to come but is that best? Although famous, some leave witness of addiction, confusion, power, and control. These worshipped and idolized icons may influence others to live the same lifestyles. This is of the world.

We must realize the world celebrates lascivious living. The lustful desire to be recognized and validated by others is condoned but can create a false perception of purpose. Indulging in promiscuous sexual sins, illicit drugs and sensual secular music is accepted but later leaves us empty and confused. God has a better plan.

God knows our human need for love, acceptance, and peace. Therefore, He took action. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him (I John 4:9). God manifested or showed his love by sending His only begotten Son to die on the cross so that we might live through Him. Submitting to Jesus as Lord of our life insures a life filled with meaning and purpose.

God created us with a desire for praise and peace. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well (Psalm 139:14). Humans who surrender to God’s saving power produce praise and accept their place of peace in Christ. When all is well with our soul our need to be fulfilled in this world subsides.

A surrendered life committed to loving and praising our Savior influences others leaving a legacy of lasting benefit. Desiring things of this world are temporal but doing God’s will is eternal. Let’s live our lagacy and leave a Godly heritage.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the father, but is of the world.

And the world passeth away, and the lusts thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

I John 2:15-14

I don’t think we ever fully realize our own legacy until we see the powerful example others leave behind when they pass on. Living a life that is a light for Jesus is the best role model for our loved ones. Thank you for sharing this beautiful and inspiring message.

I agree Katherine, our light living is the beacon to point others to Christ. I pray that is my legacy.

I’d like to know I would leave others knowing I was an Encourager in this life.

The legacy I leave has been on my mind now that I’m a grandmother. Or maybe it’s because I’m growing wiser. Nevertheless, I’m glad I have the opportunity to be intentional about creating a legacy of love.

Candyce, I’m also more intentional about the legacy I leave. I think wisdom is a contributing factor. More wisdom comes with age so getting older has it’s perks!
